Horsemanship

We have a deep respect for our horses and honor their willingness to continue to partner with us. Horses are a valuable tool for the work we do on the ranch. They’re also great teachers of listening, patience, and humility. That’s why our foundation working with our horses is rooted in horsemanship. The time spent gaining a better understanding of your horse makes the riding experience that much richer.

Riding is offered as part of our Working Ranch Stewardship experience.
This includes groundwork, lessons, open range riding, & basic stockmanship.

Open Range Riding

All the riding we do on the ranch is open range. This is in conjunction with our day to day work of moving cattle, checking fence, and getting to know our land better by experiencing it from horseback. Open range riding also gives horse and rider the chance to work together as a team, building trust as you get to know one another better. Riding on the ranch is an immersive experience. Learn more about yourself, the land, and your partnership with your horse.

Groundwork

Groundwork is all about communicating and connecting. It takes place in the round pen or arena with you on the ground. Different exercises are used to establish a relationship with your horse. These give us the opportunity to engage with our horses before mounting and tune in to what our body language is conveying to a horse about moving their feet.

Groundwork entails a round pen demonstration showing how horses communicate, move, and respond to us. After the demo, we let you try it yourself in the arena with our guidance.

Riding for Beginners

Our goal is to get you to a place riding that you feel comfortable and in control. If you are new to riding, lessons in the arena are provided before open range riding to give you a space to practice and receive instruction. We work to tailor our horsemanship instruction to your riding level, even if you are a beginner, to make sure you get the most out of your riding experience.
