Getting to Badger Creek Ranch

Getting to Badger Creek Ranch

· Please drive carefully on the high country roads leading to the ranch.  Many sections are “open range” which means that the road passes through pastures and there may be livestock on the road.

· When driving to the ranch, it is a good idea to make sure that you have a full tank of gas before leaving Cañon City, Fairplay or Salida, as there are no gas stations near the ranch.

· Please follow written directions below as you will lose cell service on the way to the ranch and GPS will not be 100% reliable.

Driving From Cañon City:

1. Follow Route 50W into Cañon City.  Go through town and past the Territorial Prison.
2. In about 8 miles you will come to area called the Royal Gorge, white water rafting etc... start looking for a right onto Highway 9 (towards Hartsel and Guffey).
3. On Highway 9 continue for 10.5 miles and take a left onto Tallahassee Rd (CR2).  This will soon turn to dirt.
4. When you first get onto CR2 clock about 5 miles into the dirt road and CR2 takes a right towards Salida.  Take this right.
5. After that right continue on CR2 for about 18 miles where CR2 will bear right.
6. Stay on CR2 for another 3 miles and you will see a small sign on the right hand side of the road for “Badger Creek Ranch” turn here and we are about 1 mile in.  You may not notice us from the road.

 Driving From Salida:

1. From Route 291 in Salida, take Spiral Drive north across the Arkansas River (Spiral Dr. is across from the hospital).
2. Once across the river make a right onto County Road 175 (Ute Trail)
3. Stay on County Road 175 (which turns into a dirt road) for approximately 20 miles (it will become County Road 2 once you cross into Fremont County).
4. You will come to a “Y” in the road where CR 53 branches off to the left.  Stay to the right on CR2.
5. Driveway to Badger Creek Ranch is on your left 1.4 miles after the “Y”.

Driving From Colorado Springs/Denver Area:

1. From I25 S, take the CO115 S/TEJON ST/NEVADA AVE exit, EXIT 140, toward NEVADA AVE (in Colorado Springs).
2. Turn RIGHT onto S NEVADA AVE/CO115 S. Continue to follow CO115 S to Penrose, CO.
3. In Penrose, merge onto US50 W to Cañon City.
4. Follow directions from Cañon City listed above.

Driving From West Denver Area:

1. Take 285 South through Conifer and Bailey.
2. Stay on 285 through Fairplay.
3. Shortly after passing through Fairplay, take Rt.9 to the left towards Hartsel.
4. You will come to a “T” intersection (Rt. 24) where you will make a left hand turn and go into Hartsel.
5. Go thru Hartsel and make a right to continue on Rt. 9.*
6. Stay on Rt. 9 until you reach mile marker 11.
7. After mile marker 11, make a right onto Tallahassee Rd. (CR2), which will soon turn into a dirt road.
8. Follow directions above, starting at #4 under Driving From Cañon City.

* If using a navigation application, it may suggest that you turn right on CR 53 about 2 miles south of Hartsel. This is a more direct route than taking Rt. 9 to CR 2, but it’s a very rough road, and not recommended unless you’re in a truck or SUV. Also, there is a housing development off CR 53 called “Badger Creek Ranch Estates” which is about 7.5 miles before you get to the ranch. They have a big sign that says “Badger Creek Ranch” with an arrow pointing to the right onto a road called “Badger Creek Rd.” DO NOT TURN HERE! Continue on CR 53 until you get to CR 2 (about 6 miles) where you should turn left and then go another 1.5 miles to the ranch entrance on the left.

Flying

The nearest airport is Colorado Springs Airport (COS), about a 2 hour drive from the ranch.  Denver International Airport (DIA) is a scenic 3 hour drive from the ranch.  Transportation from Colorado Springs Airport to Cañon City can be arranged through Lyft or Uber and then we can pick you up in Cañon City. If flying into Denver, we recommend getting a rental car, though there is a bus service called Bustang from Denver’s Union Station to Salida where we can arrange to pick you up. Both airports offer full car rental services.  If your flight times require you to stay in the area of either airport, both cities offer excellent accommodations near the airports and many local attractions to make your stay enjoyable.
